From The President

It is with joy and pride that I welcome the graduating Class of 2018 into the family of 45,000 Iona alumni. As these newest alumni set off to Move the World, they will be grounded in their Iona experience and the values that have guided so many of you.

In this issue of Iona College Magazine, you will meet some alumni who are leading the charge in the dynamic food and beverage industries. As you read, you will see differences in their paths to success. But you will also see some noticeable similarities. All of these alumni were driven by deeply held values — some by friendship or family, others by a love of learning, and all by a desire to give back. Friendship is the foundation on which many of our alumni built their futures. Family motivates our alumni to set high standards for themselves. A love of learning encourages our alumni to embrace challenges. And giving back is an integral part of who Iona alumni are. It is always inspiring to me to see how many Iona alumni feel compelled to do for others and in how many different ways they achieve this.

It is no coincidence that so many of our alumni are guided by their values. Iona’s commitment to the heritage of the Christian Brothers and Blessed Edmund Rice, and our vision to develop graduates recognized for their ethical leadership and their community engagement permeate everything we do. We see it in the classroom with our generous faculty and determined students; in student clubs with our engaged student-leaders; and in the many service-related events, such as Relay for Life, Iona in Mission, and Midnight Runs with the Iona community contributing to the greater good. We see it in the Iona Forever comprehensive campaign, which has raised $100 million of its goal of $150 million, and in the Trustees Scholarship Award Gala, which raised over $1 million to support student scholarships.

When the Class of 2022 arrives on campus in late August, they will begin their Iona experience and will join in a life of friends, family, a love of learning and a commitment to service. We look forward to their journeys and the stories of success they will share with us in the years to come.

Thank you for all you do.

Wishing you health and happiness,

Joseph E. Nyre, Ph.D.
